Hi, I'm Tilly! I started sewing in 2010 and instantly fell in love with turning fabric into wearable creations. When friends and strangers alike shared their struggles with confusing sewing patterns, I knew there had to be a better way. So, I created Tilly and the Buttons - to make sewing fun, accessible, and beginner-friendly.
Combining my professional background in education with my passion for DIY fashion, I set about to rethink sewing resources for the new wave of makers.
After launching my first sewing patterns and signing my first book deal, I left my day job to grow Tilly and the Buttons full-time. Today, my team and I continue to share the joy of sewing with makers worldwide.
We love sewing and want you to love it too!

from 1080 reviewsWhat a lovely pattern to sew, I'm very new to sewing but found the instructions very clear and the pattern easy for a newbie like me.
I was so happy with how it turned out I made 3 different ones: 3/4 sleeve, short sleeve and the elasticated long sleeve. I would absolutely recommend this pattern even for very new sewers- it was great. I'm super happy and I got complimented on how nice it was, which pleased me alot. I also purchased the Frida shirt but am building up to that 🙂 Thank you Tilly.
I was a bit daunted by something with buttons, but the instructions were clear throughout and any use of the seam ripper that was necessary was my own fault for not paying enough attention to the images! I sized down by 1 size because I did not want the blouse to be too oversized and it's perfect.
The usual lovely quality from Tilly! I’ve found getting the fit right a bit tricky as the arm pits seem really big. As someone who is full busted, I’ve ended up sizing up to a 6 from my usual 5 in Tilly patterns, but then cutting the 6 slightly smaller on each back piece and losing a cm from the centre of the front piece. Totally making it up as I go along but it seems to have worked! I’ve made a dress and a couple of tops so far and will definitely make more.
Considering how far the pattern travelled, it is in excellent condition. I haven't used it yet but look forward to making the pants.
This is a really good course, with clear instructions and a good choice of fabric, thread colour and camera angles so that you can easily see what's going on. I did the course using a cheap cotton poplin intended as a toile, but ended up with a shirt that I'm going to wear, so very pleased.
This was such a fun treat. I’m not really into the big collar situation but I love the idea that this is detachable so I can enjoy it for a little while and then take it off. The pattern was amazing completely easy and usable! I’ve already made two… Would be really fun to do in fur
I made two of these in parallel - a short-sleeved cropped version and a hip-length version with an elasticised sleeve, both out of a linen fabric. The A0 pattern was very convenient to have printed in a print shop. The instructions were clear and the images included really helped! Since this is oversized and I was on the verge of one of the sizes, next time I would size down instead. I will definitely make another one eventually!
Bought this pattern on a whim during the sale, and fully expected the project to be frustrating and horrible - but then it turned out to be... really fun?! The clear instructions made sewing the slippery lycra much easier than I'd thought, and even though I've got some minor puckers here and there, I'm overall super pleased with the result! The fit is very flattering (size 3 on a wobbly post-pregnancy body) and I can't wait to try it out at the local lakeside. Huge recommendation, and have no fears! :D
I really love this pattern. It has a top and two dress patterns. The directions are clear and easy to follow. Already bought fabric for it.
Ordered the Leah pattern as I wanted something easy to make, and wanting to get back into dressmaking again after making things for the house and campervan, what a delight to make this peplum top, next on my list is the midi dress
This is my first TATB pattern, I made a practice version in a lovely soft double gauze in the size 9 which was a little looser than I preferred. I made a second in a lovely Indian cotton from Merchant and Mills in a size 7 which fit more closely but still comfortable for a hot day. I shortened the shoulder area during the construction step. Great pattern and such a lovely summer dress
Really enjoyed making the Leah top. It was a quick make, made over 2 evenings. I sized down and made a size 4, despite being a size 5, going by my measurements. Only adjustment I made was to add 2in to the length as I’m 5ft 9. It fits perfectly and was a really satisfying make. Love that it’s as neat on the inside as on the outside!
This is a brilliant course and fantastic value for money. It provides a great framework for approaching fitting issues and deals with so many different adjustments. I particularly liked the case studies at the end to summarise everything covered and see it put to use in real life scenarios. It gives you the confidence to tackle patterns that you would perhaps hesitate to try previously. I would recommend to beginners and also to those with more experience to consolidate knowledge. Thank you very much! It must have taken a lot of work to put it together!
This is an excellent pattern. I have already made two and am planning a third. The direction were easy to follow and it came together quickly.
